Monday Vase: Not to Miss Anything...

eremophila "Outback Sunrise", Monday Vase meme
Monday again; therefore time for another vase for the Monday Vase meme with Cathy.  Today's is a bit different, in that it reuses material from the past two weeks.  Since the last two vases have each contained woody and dried material, the ingredients were there and waiting to be combined.

In each vase there was one stem that had flowered in the meantime.  From two weeks ago, one of the dry, woody apricot stems recently opened a white blossom...

...while last Monday's sprig of Eremophila "Outback Sunrise", then loaded with tight buds, has bloomed also.

The combination consisted simply in removing the faded rose from last week's arrangement - the Muhlenbergia stems and the rosemary sprigs are in perfectly good condition - and adding some of the apricot stems in place of the rose.  Not quite so spectacular, but a reasonable solution on a busy morning - and I didn't want to lose the apricot flower or the eremophila blooms.

I wasn't able to photograph this in the nicho (as they are known in this region) that I used last week so today I used the breakfast table.  Here is the result of the combination.

Happy Monday!

    1. It definitely has me won over, Kris - refined, attractive, evergreen foliage, winter/spring bloom...! The two varieties I have are unlike each other (Valentine is a rounded shrub, Outback Sunrise is a low, wide grower), but both are good foliage focal points and Valentine, in particular, is blooming spectacularly. Of course, I haven't grown them through summer yet, but I'm beginning to realize that I'm seeing them used in municipal plantings - gotta be tough to survive desert summer on a sidewalk!

  3. It's great that people are often reusing bits from previous vases, and do so to great effect. Will you get fruits from your apricot? That's probably a silly question as in your climate it's probably a certainty, but here in the UK they are not reliably hardy as the frosts can get to the flowers. Thanks for sharing

    1. I'm amazed that so much of the last vase is still in perfect condition...! I've never actually forced a flowering branch before: the apricot was a pleasant surprise. I expect the tree to fruit successfully. Last year's crop was lost to birds, but this year I have netting on hand... I know what you mean about the late frosts; that makes trouble for apricots - and occasionally peaches - in the lower Midwest also. I don't expect frost trouble here but will have to make sure the tree gets enough water to fruit!
