A Small Celebration

Salvia greggii seedling
Before there was a garden here, there were weeds.  Seeds blew in from the desert, sprouted, grew, died, and seeded again.  The cycle continues despite my efforts to combat them and, as is the way with weeds, presumably will still continue when the garden is no more.

In the meantime, I present a special moment: the first seedling from a garden plant.  Growing in the shelter of its parent, Salvia greggii "Autumn Moon", beside a miniature rose.

As S. greggii has sent down thousands of seeds (it has scarcely been out of bloom since planting five months ago) and this is the first seedling I have noticed, I'm not too concerned about it becoming invasive.  So I feel free to celebrate this little milestone.  The garden is here to stay!

  1. La variété de sauge que tu présentes est une belle plante aux teintes délicieuses. Protèges la bien elle le mérite. Elle va te donner toute la belle saison une floraison exceptionnelle en qualité et en durée.

    1. This variety has indeed been exceptional in both vigour and beauty. (Sadly, the red-flowered variety "Flame" has so far been much weaker.) I look forward to watching this little seedling grow to flowering! It has great promise :)
      Have a lovely week, Jocelyne!

    1. There is a great deal of beauty in the world independent of us - though much of it requires a little careful tending ;-) Thanks so much, Ann!
