A Hummingbird in the Garden

Hummingbird
There is no doubt that the hummingbird favourite so far is Salvia greggii "Autumn Moon".  It helps that the bush has been in bloom almost continually since planting, but clearly the flavour is much appreciated too.

It is planted just next to the "Sterling Silver" rose; this little bird was almost completely invisible against its new growth.
Because of her rapid, constant movement, she is not so invisible in person.  But so tiny: one does have to look hard to see her sometimes!  So tiny - I have seen her flit away when confronted by a large butterfly, though in general hummingbirds are known for being fearless.  She certainly came and hovered just in front of me shortly after I took these pictures.  By that time, my camera was no longer at the ready!  So these are the best I have available.  Hope you enjoy them!

  1. Tu n'as aucun doute à avoir, ces photos de colibri sont ravissantes. Quelle chance tu as d'avoir ces oiseaux dans ton jardin et de pouvoir les photographier est un pur bonheur.
    Belle soirée

    1. Seeing this tiny bird is indeed a great pleasure, and I'm sure it is clear why I try to grow the flowers that she loves ;-) Thank you so much, Jocelyne! Good night :)

  2. The pictures are extraordinary, you can see the beautiful green colors of its feathers, these little birds are great "aviators" of a nervous flying and fast maneuvers ... complications for the photographer :))
Hugs and happy week Amy !!

    1. Her aerial acrobatics do make her hard to photograph! But I keep trying because she is such a marvelous creature... Many thanks, Belén! Hugs :)

  4. Such a pretty little bird. With the light reflecting off her feathers she looks a bit like a flying fish.

  5. They're fantastic photos, Amy! I can never catch the tiny creatures with my camera except when they sit still (which doesn't happen often).

    1. I never seem to be close enough with a camera when they perch... Honestly, I had to do a lot of processing on these shots to get the little bird visible, especially against the leafy background. She is better camouflaged in the garden than I realized!
