...today's vase is as simple as could be. What more could one want than a cluster of roses?
I even left the spent hips on the stems.
Wollerton Old Hall has been very reliable and the blooms have such a delicate beauty. They are less formal than I expected, creating a soft, cottage garden effect with their perfect, shell-shaped petals. The hues vary a bit from rose to rose. Perhaps it's the temperature, or perhaps not. At any rate it adds to the charm! Just now there is a good deal of primrose yellow and a whisper of apricot.
I used an equally simple jar, one of my white-glazed stoneware pieces. I am planning to experiment with this glaze again soon. I'm pleased with its quiet, soft texture, and it does lend itself to a slightly rustic look.
The combination is unorthodox, but I rather like the warm tones of the roses against the cool white of the pot.
I admit that Wollerton Old Hall was a must-have from the first picture I saw of it. It certainly has lived up to my hopes!
Happy Monday!

What a lovely delicate rose, I love the peachy sunset color, Amy. And so many flowers at once!
ReplyDeleteIt's turning out to be quite a favourite here, Hannah - and very free-flowering :)
DeleteI remember when you showed this rose last year - it is so pretty. And the softness of glaze on your pot is perfect - nothing unorthodox at all from a non-potters point of view! Thanks for sharing, Amy
ReplyDeleteI do feel the softness of the rose goes well with the soft glaze ;-) Wollerton Old Hall (the rose, that is!) hasn't stopped amazing me with its beauty and floriferousness. Another real winner from D A, I think!
DeleteI love the color of this one!
ReplyDeleteI do too, Kris ;-) Thanks!
DeleteIt's a truly romantic rose and that colour immediately reminded me of the dress I wore as a bridesmaid at my sister's wedding over 30 years ago! I think your glazed vase is just right too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cathy! I can't imagine a better colour for a bridesmaid's dress...! These flowers are all satin and chiffon anyway; they have a very appealing texture. So glad you enjoyed the vase...!
DeleteSimple is often the best especially when its that good!
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to go wrong with roses like these... ;-) Thanks!
DeleteI always thought Wollerton Old Hall was white, but love the soft pretty apricot colour of this one.
ReplyDeleteI expected it to be white also, Ann; and frankly it has rung all the changes from white to pale yellow to apricot. I would be blaming the weather or soil or what-have-you, but I notice that in the D A literature this variety is variously described as "buttery yellow" and "creamy" as well as "pale apricot". So it would seem to be normal for this one to exhibit a good deal of variation! It does, as they point out, blend beautifully with surrounding flowers...
