...plus flowers from two plants of Salvia greggii: a seedling that is blooming well...
...and the named variety "Flame"...
...then Pennisetum rubrum stems...
...and foliage from the lemon tree...
...all together in a Spanish goblet purchased at our local resale shop.
Admittedly, the effect is somewhat flamboyant.
It began with The Alnwick Rose, of course...
...and I did want to use some of the Salvia greggii flowers just now while they're at their peak. They can bloom nearly year-round, but autumn is perhaps their high point.
The lemon foliage went in as being large enough to support the rose (which is a good-sized bloom) and also as being appropriate content for a little Spanish silver.
Another shot of the rose...
...and the whole arrangement.
This was a special first time for featuring The Alnwick Rose in a Monday Vase; it has been a favourite of mine since I saw it growing in my cousin's garden in San Diego, CA. I was very glad to find that the David Austin Roses catalogue recommends it for hot climate growing.
Not that it's very hot right now! Temperatures are expected to drop to 37 F (3 C) tonight and we had a soaking rain last night - a little bit of low desert winter for a day or two. How quickly one gets used to constant sunshine...!
Thanks to Cathy for hosting this wonderful meme at Rambling in the Garden!
Happy Monday!

Exactly dear Aggeliki - so pleased you enjoyed these!! Wishing you good morning and a wonderful day :)
DeleteI love this arrangement, so elegant and of your there is the rose...........
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Christina! That is a most elegant rose - one could hardly go very wrong with it :)
DeleteIt is getting colder there....my what a lovely rose growing beautifully with the salvia....it look perfect for the Spanish goblet.
ReplyDeleteWe've got a bit of chill on though daytimes are mostly pleasant - perfect weather for the garden... So glad you like the effect; I was happy to finally have a good chance to use the goblet :)
Deletea lovely arrangement with a stunning rose as the star. I am loving metal vases at the moment and am hunting for them in local thrift shops.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann! I'll be interested to see what you find; this goblet was totally unexpected - one of those holiday purchases one makes when ostensibly shopping for someone else ;-) But I did think it balanced well with such a striking rose...
DeleteA goblet of pink fizz, Amy
ReplyDeleteIt smelled good, so I suppose it would taste good...? Thanks, Brian!
DeleteA lovely rose Amy, and such a pretty arrangement altogether. I am a great fan of salvia flowers too. :)
ReplyDeleteAren't salvia flowers wonderful? Thanks so much, Cathy :)
DeleteThe elegance of the rose is nicely reflected in the silver goblet, Amy. I envy you the rain! We didn't get anything but wind out of the last system that moved through.
ReplyDeleteI did love the pink and silver - not something I've done much before. Here's hoping the rain materializes for you soon!
DeleteSuch a gorgeous arrangement! That rose is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you were able to get through on the blog finally, Kate :) Thanks so much (and thanks for continuing to try despite the system gremlins!)
DeleteFunny ... this arrangement makes me think of showy male birds strutting their stuff!--especially the "and the whole arrangement" photo. I like it :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hollis! This one did seem to flaunt itself around ;-) I blame it on the Pennisetum, which turns out to have a mind of its own when cut!
