The Wild Tree: December

This month's post sees the cluster of Parkinsonia florida trees near mid-winter.  This is a lovely time of year here in the low desert.

Very little has actually changed since last month, other than an increased number of yellow leaves...

...and fewer leaves on the branches, both perhaps due to a long time with no rainfall.

Otherwise, the trees are their usual selves, lightly covered in a sparse million of tiny leaves over soft green branches and trunk.

So today's post will mostly be pictures.  Some were taken in evening light and are rather dark; the rest in the morning...

Evening light...
...and morning light...

As I say, a few extra yellow leaves...

I don't think I've photographed the elegant wrinkles in the bark before!

Here is a damaged spot, calloused over.
And there are the lingering seedpods, open...

...and still closed.

  1. So lovely to see a Parkinsonia! I have often heard about them, so now I know what they look like. They really are lovely and seem to have a wonderful airy look about them. I was really taken with the olive green trunk and branches too because that must look especially pretty with the yellow flowers.

    1. The soft green of the bark is so special - all the more so since it still gives a shady look when the tree is nearly leafless in mid-summer drought. And I'm counting the months till it blooms again... (should be April-ish) ;-)

  2. Very atmospheric pictures, especially the last one with the fine cobwebs

I particularly like that picture in evening light against the dark background.
And I hope you will join us all again in 2016!
    All the best :)
