I missed posting pictures of cactus flowers in my Bloom Day post. Here is my recently planted Mammillaria elegans, just a very small mound of white and pink starbursts right now. And yes, quite elegant, I think!
Apparently I was not supposed to plant it out until the weather warmed up. However, it didn't seem to mind and has settled in. And as the weather is heating up nicely this week, I expect it to do well!
The spines seem to be more or less harmless, and the whole effect of the little plant is charming.

Such perfect little blooms!
ReplyDeleteThey really are... and so small - maybe 1/4 inch or so across!
DeleteI use to grow cacti as a boy, I don't ever remembering them flowering, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't expecting it flower this year at all, so this was quite gratifying. It must feel very much at home here, as well it might... ;-)
DeleteHi Amy, I have one and it is blooming. I live in Valdosta, GA, USA. I have another Cacti it grows straight up and I'm not sure what the name of it is. Yours is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Martha! This little one is my first in the garden, so I'm quite a beginner with cactus! They are certainly beautiful!
DeleteHello Amy! Many apologies for being behind in reading your posts. I had visitors over Easter and have been trying to catch up with myself, so I have made myself a cup of coffee and now can sit and enjoy your lovely garden and photographs. I love this little cactus - it is so delicate which is a word I would never normally have used to describe a cactus!! I love how the flowers are opening in a perfect circumference too!
ReplyDeleteSo good to see you here, Kate -- and I hope you are getting rested from all the activity ;-) I've gotten a bit behind myself and missed so much, I know!
DeleteDelicate is definitely the right word for this cactus! Like you, I love the wreath of flowers; and I'm delighted that they are still in bloom... and such a tiny plant!
