Autumn planting (or at least transplanting) began this morning with the transfer of Chrysactinia mexicana from the South Border to the East Border. All appears to have gone well, and Eremophila hygrophana is waiting to more or less take its place. As I recently went on a little buying spree, I have a long line of plants in pots...
In the meantime it is tempting to simply post pictures of some roses. Two roses in particular: Wollerton Old Hall and Crown Princess Margareta are foremost in welcoming the coming autumn. Both have continued to bloom off and on through the long, hot summer, but both are now looking a bit more like themselves. WOH has more petals to its flowers (most of which have been little more than semi-doubles for months), and CPM is much closer to its luscious apricot colour (blooms have tended to pink or white in the heat).
So, as the garden and gardener gear up for autumn, I invite you to a tiny tour of two rose bushes...

I must admit I'm enjoying the approach of Summer's End here in the desert!

Beautiful photos, Amy. I look forward to summer's end here in the South Bay too.
ReplyDeleteWe and our plants will certainly be glad for a break, won't we... ;-)
DeleteSummer's end must offer a bit of a relief to the plants Amy. Planting and transplanting getting under way here too.
ReplyDeleteWe got some rain again last night, and the plants think it's Paradise! I think the transitional seasons are the most exciting in the garden anyway - all the ideas that came along in the meantime can be put into place :)
DeleteYour roses are lovely - I can't imagine having to transplant in 100+ weather....thankfully the plants are tough!
ReplyDeleteWell, now I know better - turns out that Damianita doesn't transplant well under most any conditions - ouch! ouch! ouch! It's exactly where I wanted it now too... I'll be replacing it with two more as soon as possible!
DeleteBeautiful pictures Amy. Autumn is a busy time in the garden preparing for an even better display next year, putting all our new plans into action!
ReplyDeleteExactly! I have a long, long list... ;-) Thanks so much, Brian!
DeleteYour pictures are completely amazing ... you have such beautiful roses and flowers ...thank you for sharing them with us ...such a pleasure to look at such loveliness Amy ...thank you :)
