In a Vase: Sunflower Season

Summer sunflowers are in bloom now.  "Solar Eclipse" is a very multi-flowered variety, which is fortunate as only a handful of seedlings have sprouted from multiple sowings back in June and early July.  Of those, only a few have grown to bloom size.  But those few are making their presence known with plenty of flowers!

I love the lemon yellow color as well as the abundance of bloom on this sunflower.

Sunflower "Solar Eclipse" steals the show... The jar is one of my handthrown stoneware pieces, this one glazed in classic tin white.
Happy August!  And thanks, as always, to Cathy for hosting this lovely meme at Rambling in the Garden!

  1. Good grief, Amy - that is indeed a multi-flowered sunflower! I have never seen anything like it :) The fact that the heads vary so much in size is intriguing too. The pennisteum is a wonderful addition to the vase - how long will it last?

    1. The Pennisetum has been lasting beautifully and even drying nicely. And yes, that huge cluster of sunflowers is intriguing, isn't it?! Makes it easier to decide to cut some too ;-)

  2. I need to try that sunflower! I also had trouble getting my sunflower seeds to sprout this year and those that bloomed (only 'Lemon Queen') haven't been impressive.

    1. I have no idea what's going on with sunflowers sprouting... I was so impressed by yours last year that I made sure to grow some this. I guess I've gotten enough to whet my appetite and make me sure I want to try more next year ;-)
